The Test of Time
Ada K. Damon, when first wrecked in 1909...
|
The beached shipwreck of Ada K. Damon (and all wrecks in the State) are under the protection of the Massachusetts BUAR.
Managing these precious sites increases, the more that people know about them from seeing websites like this, or finding them on the beach when they go for a walk, or talking to people who have studied them on shore and underwater. If we learn about these amazing pieces of history, we will continue to care for them and study them more. |
Environmental Messages
The Ada K. Damon has been embedded in the sand at Steep Hill Beach for over 100 years.
During this time period the ship has been exposed, buried, re-exposed, and reburied in cycles marked by the constantly changing nature of the beach and sand dunes from erosion. Frequent photographic documentation of this site will give scientists and the Trustees of the Crane Estate the resources to monitor changes to the wreck along with dunes and habitats of local wildlife. Shipwrecks on land or underwater change the environment they inhabit and may provide new habitats for a variety of animals. |
